pupdate

The Juhla puppies are almost 8 months old now.  They have all their adult teeth, have outgrown the adorable fluffy puppy stage and are well and truly in the throes of the gangly era where they are big puppies looking nothing like mature adult dogs yet.  Oh, and they don't act like mature adult dogs yet either.

This is the age when the naughtiness starts to surface.  They start to be come a bit more independent and brave and they also begin to test the rules.  The testing occasionally extends to one's patience ... and the patience of their older doggie brothers, as you can see in the funny video of Malaki below tormenting the long-suffering and incredibly patient Shadow.  Mally is so very much like his sweet mum Tuuli who, it has been said, is a lot like her sweet dad.  Sadly I've never met him, but I have seen the photos and videos, and take it from me, he's an adorable clown.

Next gangly teenager report is from Niko.  Niko is not naughty.  No, no, you're wrong, I'm pretty sure he's the well-behaved one.  After all, he doesn't look naughty, right?  Huh?  I'm sure I don't know what you mean.

See?  Such a good boy

Hmmm

The third boy is Tux.  I can't even pretend that he's not naughty because the evidence is published elsewhere on a regular basis.  However, he looks angelic enough in these photos.  Another boy who is the image of his mum.  There is also a video of Tux & Karhu playing at the beach.  Perhaps the presence of the training line gives a hint of the greatest challenge an 8-month-old Finnish Lapphund puppy presents.

Then there are the girls.  First of all, Kaija.  She has stayed here a couple of times now and I can confirm that she is indeed a good girl.  Sweet, well behaved, quiet, plays nicely with children & other dogs.  Pulls like a train on her lead.  All par for the course at this age.

Kaija also has a RAWR!  And so does Mason

Finally, Eevi.  Right from birth, she looked like a feminine version of Niko, and she still does.  Oh, and she definitely inherited the waterbaby gene.

pups at home

All the puppies have settled into their new homes now and have started their socialisation regime (I hope...!)  They are all well into the training, house training and nipping.  Big thanks to all their owners for keeping me up-to-date with cute photos.

meanwhile last week

I'm gathering photos of the puppies in their new homes, but in the meantime, here are a few more photos that Jenny took when she & Rob were here last weekend.

8 weeks old and setting off

The puppies have reached the magic age of 8 weeks old and one-by-one they have flown the nest.  Tonight Tuuli is missing them a bit, carrying toys around in her mouth, and at rather a loose end.

Last night, when she had only Malaki left, she spent a lot of time with him - and her tail made a nice nest for a nap.

And here is everyone setting off for their new homes and new adventures.

Niko was the first to leave with Jenny & Rob.  And Tux hitched a ride with them part-way to his new home with Wendy, Scott & his new big brother Karhu in Glasgow.

Next to go was Eevi all the way to north Wales with Helen & Matt followed swiftly by Kaija who went only a few miles down the road to Plymouth with Becky, Matthew & Mason.

Then we were left briefly with Malaki, and we had an enormous amount of fun letting him run riot all over the living room and kitchen playing with the girls.  Then the time came for him to go to his new home too, and he set off for Bedfordshire with Tiffany and her parents, Stephanie & Ryan.  And he will have a new big brother, too - Lappy Shadow.

Hopefully I will have some photos of the gang in their new homes to share before long.  I'm not above nicking them from Facebook, as you know, so I'm sure I'll find something to share.

entertainment

Now that the puppies are weaned, Tuuli doesn't let them nurse anymore.  But she does love to spend time with them, just in the pen chewing a hoof or playing with them.

And Neka enjoys them too

7 weeks old

You may have thought I had forgotten, but no.  And you will see from the poor quality of the photos that there is no time in this house.  But the 7-week pics had to be taken, regardless of how late at night and regardless of how wiggly the puppy and regardless of how ... unfortunate ... the results.

The Juhla puppies, 7 weeks old, in various states of wiggliness.  Oh, and late at night with not-so-great lighting either.  And there's an outtake for each one too -  I'm spoiling you!
